Friends — I. Need. To. Get. Something. Off. My. Chest.
If you break your leg, you are going to have a period of healing and possibly some {physical therapy} to help return your leg strength and mobility back to its original state, right? You won’t be able to walk like the person next to you who didn’t break their leg. You will need to do something extra special to return your leg to its original state.
The same goes for our health and metabolism when it’s “broken.” We need to use a {nutrition therapy} to return our metabolism and health to its rightful state.
I see a lot of people really embracing ketogenic eating and intermittent fasting – they are finding some wonderful health and metabolism benefits! It’s like they are finally unlocking some answers. Friend, if this is you – continue on! You are a Rockstar. Do what is working for you.
But I also see a lot of people scoffing at it, which is to be expected.
Interestingly, a lot of the scoffers are individuals who have never truly struggled with their metabolism. Hmmm.
Possibly these people lost a handful of pounds just watching their portions or exercising a little bit more – they assume anyone adopting anything differently than what worked for them is “too extreme” or “too restrictive” yada-yada.
It’s hard to relate if you haven’t actually walked in someone’s shoes, isn’t it?!
Those of us who struggle with our metabolism aren’t just simply eating too much or not eating “clean enough” – please. There is so much more that goes into it.
It’s beyond frustrating when someone who has NEVER TRULY STRUGGLED with what I’ve struggled with, and perhaps what you have struggled with, tell us our metabolism challenges are because we are not eating real food, not doing such and such workout program, not eating “clean enough” or something of the like ..blah blah – disclaimer: I am 😉 and HI! That’s not how the science of the stubborn metabolism works.
Eating in a way that places your metabolism in a state of nutritional ketosis can be an incredibly therapeutic and healing. I consider it a powerful NUTRITION THERAPY and teach about it in my Best You Plan. It’s what is helping me fix the insulin resistance that I built on my metabolism over a 25+ year time period – it’s what helps us heal our metabolisms in a way just “clean eating” or calorie restriction never can, and never will.
So next time someone who has never truly struggled with their metabolism tells you that ketogenic eating and intermittent fasting is “too extreme”, just remember – your journey is your own. I’ve also found cranking up “Shake it Off” helps, too.
Signed,
A dietitian who understands a stubborn metabolism firsthand and knows what we can do about it.
